UNIQUE CREEK HOMESTEAD SEEDS: All of our seeds are grown right here on our Unique Creek Homestead and not sourced from elsewhere. All seeds are collected each growing season and are 1-year old or less, stored in air-tight Mason jars. Seeds are harvested and labeled for storage each season, one plant/seed type at a time so seeds do not get mixed by accident during the process! The seeds we use at the start of each growing season come from the exact same seeds we sell.
ABOUT THESE SEEDS: The Fried Chicken pepper is a superhot chili, a cross between the 7 Pot Bubblegum and JPGS (Jalapenia Purple Ghost Skin), that gained its name from its bumpy, blistered, and wrinkled pods, which resemble fried chicken skin. Created by Rocco Maltesi, it features intense heat (around 850,000 to 1,000,000+ Scoville heat units), a bright citrusy-grapefruit flavor with floral notes, and ripens to a brilliant orange color. It is a long-season variety and an excellent choice for hot sauces and chili powders.
Key Characteristics
Appearance: The pods are characterized by a gnarly, wrinkled, bumpy, and blistered texture that led to its "Fried Chicken" name. They are generally rounded with a pointed tail. Color: Fruits start green and ripen to a vibrant orange.
Heat Level: It is considered a superhot pepper, with an estimated heat level of around 850,000 to 1,000,000+ Scoville heat units (SHU).
Flavor Profile: Offers a searing burn accompanied by bright citrusy-grapefruit notes and a hint of floral complexity.
Origin: Created by Rocco Maltesi in Italy from the cross between the 7 Pot Bubblegum and JPGS.
Growth: The plants are heavy pod producers and grow large, potentially reaching over 6 feet tall, though variations can occur due to its status as a young, potentially unstable cross.
Uses: Ideal for making hot sauces, chili powders, and adding intense heat to various dishes. Growing Information
Season: It is a long-season variety, taking approximately 120 days from seed to ripe fruit.
Planting: Start seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before the last frost date.
Conditions: When transplanting outdoors, ensure the plants receive plenty of sunlight and warm temperatures.
Sow seeds in flats or pots 8 to 10 weeks prior to the expected outdoor planting date. Sow them shallowly, around 1/4 inch deep. Hot peppers, and especially super-hot peppers, have a well-earned reputation for being finicky to germinate, but you can increase germination rates by providing bottom heat (highly suggested).

Scott & Melissa
