UNIQUE CREEK HOMESTEAD SEEDS: All of our seeds are grown right here on our Unique Creek Homestead and not sourced from elsewhere. All seeds are collected each growing season and are 1-year old or less, stored in air-tight Mason jars. Seeds are harvested and labeled for storage each season, one plant/seed type at a time so seeds do not get mixed by accident during the process! The seeds we use at the start of each growing season come from the exact same seeds we sell.
ABOUT THESE SEEDS: The Devil's Tongue Yellow pepper is an extremely hot chili pepper from the Capsicum chinense family, known for its fruity, citrusy, and sweet flavor profile, though this fades once cooked into sauces and salsas, leaving a true pepper flavor. With a heat level of 125,000 to 350,000 on the Scoville scale, it is much hotter than a standard habanero but still produces prolific yellow, wrinkled, 3-4-inch-long pods. This pepper is excellent for making hot sauces and salsas, and its thick walls are also good for pickling, according to Tyler Farms.Key Characteristics Biological Name: Capsicum chinense
Appearance: Long, wrinkled, curved pods that mature from green to bright yellow.
Flavor: A unique sweet, fruity, and citrusy flavor.
Heat: Very hot, with a Scoville rating ranging from 125,000 to 350,000 SHU.
Origin: Believed to have originated from the Caribbean, possibly developed from habanero and fatalii strains.
Fruiting: The plant is a prolific producer of many long, 3-4 inch fruits.
Culinary Uses Salsas: Excellent for making very hot salsas. Hot Sauces: Its thick walls and intense flavor make it a popular choice for hot sauces. Pickling: The thick walls are well-suited for pickling. Cooked Dishes: The flavor infuses well into food, with the heat mellowing when allowed to sit overnight.
Growing Tips Starting Seeds: Plant seeds indoors 8 weeks before the last frost date. Soil & Light: Requires well-draining soil and full sun exposure. Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist, particularly during fruit development. Temperature: Peppers need bottom heat during germination (around 85°F), and the plants prefer warm conditions. Harvesting: Harvest when the fruits are full-sized and turn their characteristic bright yellow
