UNIQUE CREEK HOMESTEAD SEEDS: All of our seeds are grown right here on our Unique Creek Homestead and not sourced from elsewhere. All seeds are collected each growing season and are 1-year old or less, stored in air-tight Mason jars. Seeds are harvested and labeled for storage each season, one plant/seed type at a time so seeds do not get mixed by accident during the process! The seeds we use at the start of each growing season come from the exact same seeds we sell. Heat pads, plant lights and humidity domes will greatly help seed germination rates.

ABOUT THESE SEEDS:
The Serrano Tampiqueno is a variety of Capsicum annuum pepper native to the mountainous regions of Hidalgo and Puebla, Mexico, known for its bright, fruity flavor and moderate to high heat, ranging from approximately 10,000 to 23,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU). These small, slender peppers are popular in Mexican cuisine for salsas, hot sauces, and soups, and can be harvested when green or when they ripen to red.

Characteristics Name Origin: The name "Serrano" means "from the mountains," referencing its origin in the mountainous regions of Mexico.

Size: The peppers are typically 2 to 3 inches long.

Flavor & Heat: It offers a slightly sweet, bright, and fruity flavor with a spicy kick that can range from medium to hot, making it hotter than a jalapeño.

Color: The peppers are green when unripe and mature to a deep red.

Uses Fresh: The thin skin of the pepper makes it excellent for eating raw in salsas and other fresh dishes. Sauces: It is a staple in many salsas and hot sauces. Soups & Stews: Its distinctive heat and flavor make it a great addition to soups and stews.

Pickling: It can also be pickled.

Growing Tips Sunlight: Plants need full sun with at least 6-8 hours of direct light daily.

Soil: Fertile, well-draining soil with a pH between 6.0 and 7.0 is ideal. Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but avoid waterlogging. Harvesting: You can harvest the peppers when they are green or after they have ripened to red, depending on your preference

Sow seeds in flats or pots 8 to 10 weeks prior to the expected outdoor planting date. Sow them shallowly, around 1/4 inch deep. Hot peppers, and especially super-hot peppers, have a well-earned reputation for being finicky to germinate, but you can increase germination rates by providing bottom heat (highly suggested).
