UNIQUE CREEK HOMESTEAD SEEDS: All of our seeds are grown right here on our Unique Creek Homestead and not sourced from elsewhere. All seeds are collected each growing season and are 1-year old or less, stored in air-tight Mason jars. Seeds are harvested and labeled for storage each season, one plant/seed type at a time so seeds do not get mixed by accident during the process! The seeds we use at the start of each growing season come from the exact same seeds we sell!

ABOUT THESE SEEDS: The Aji Charapita Red pepper is a rare, small variant of the famous wild Aji Charapita yellow chili native to the Amazon rainforest of Peru.

Key Facts & Characteristics

Species: Capsicum Chinese

Heat Level: 50,000 to 100,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU)—hotter than the traditional yellow variety (30,000–50,000 SHU), putting it on par with a cayenne or bird's eye chili.

Flavor Profile: Fruity, floral, and exotic with distinct citrus undertones.

Appearance: Small, round-to-slightly-elongated marble-sized pods (about 0.5 to 1 cm in diameter) that mature from green to a vibrant bright red.

Rarity & Cost: While the yellow Charapita is world-famous as one of the most expensive chili peppers (sometimes called "wild caviar chili"), the red variant is less common in mainstream global markets but prized by pepper enthusiasts.

Culinary Uses

Fresh or Dried: Eaten fresh in small amounts, minced into salsas, or dried and ground into a potent seasoning powder.Sauces & Stews: Used in traditional hot sauces, marinades, and fish dishes to impart a fruity aroma alongside a sharp, clean burn.

Growing Guide

Maturation Period: Long growth and ripening cycle, taking roughly 100 to 110 days (or 7 to 10 months from sowing to final harvest).Climate & Care: Thrives in warm, humid conditions with an optimal germination temperature of 22°C–28°C (72°F–82°F). Because of the long maturation window, it is best grown in containers so it can be brought indoors before temperatures drop below 12°C (54°F).Plant Habit: Bushy, branched plant that can grow up to 150 cm (5 feet) tall with a high yield of tiny peppers.

Sow seeds in flats or pots 8 to 10 weeks prior to the expected outdoor planting date. Sow them shallowly, around 1/4 inch deep. Hot peppers, and especially super-hot peppers, have a well-earned reputation for being finicky to germinate, but you can increase germination rates by providing bottom heat (highly suggested).
