UNIQUE CREEK HOMESTEAD SEEDS: All of our seeds are grown right here on our Unique Creek Homestead and not sourced from elsewhere. All seeds are collected each growing season and are 1-year old or less, stored in air-tight Mason jars. Seeds are harvested and labeled for storage each season, one plant/seed type at a time so seeds do not get mixed by accident during the process! The seeds we use at the start of each growing season come from the exact same seeds we sell.
ABOUT THESE SEEDS: The Chocolate Cherry tomato is a popular, open-pollinated indeterminate variety featuring small, 1-inch round fruits with a rich brick-red, burgundy, and dark brown color. Known for a sweet, complex flavor with earthy undertones, it matures in about 70 to 75 days and yields heavy clusters all season until frost.
Fruit and Flavor Profile
Appearance: Deep milk-chocolate to dark mahogany hue; about 0.5 to 1 ounce in weight.
Taste: Sweet, rich, and tangy with wine-like or smoky, earthy undertones.
Uses: Excellent for fresh snacking, garnishes, and colorful summer salads.
Growing and Care Guide
Plant Type: Indeterminate (vining, tall plants reaching 5 to 6+ feet that need strong staking or caging).
Days to Maturity: 70–75 days from transplanting.
Sun/Soil: Requires full sun and warm, well-draining soil (ideal pH around 6.0–6.8).
Sowing: Start seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before your last spring frost date at a depth of 1/4 inch.
Spacing: Space plants about 2 to 3 feet apart in rows spaced 3 to 4 feet apart.
Maintenance: Pruning extra suckers can increase fruit size and speed up ripening, though vigorous vines tolerate moderate growth well.
