UNIQUE CREEK HOMESTEAD SEEDS: All of our seeds are grown right here on our Unique Creek Homestead and not sourced from elsewhere. All seeds are collected each growing season and are 1-year old or less, stored in air-tight Mason jars. Seeds are harvested and labeled for storage each season, one plant/seed type at a time so seeds do not get mixed by accident during the process! The seeds we use at the start of each growing season come from the exact same seeds we sell.
ABOUT THESE SEEDS:The "Farmers Market Jalapeno," also known as the "Potato Jalapeno," is a unique variety of jalapeno pepper characterized by its distinctive, heavily corked or "potato-like" skin. These peppers are known for their large size, mild heat, and sweet, earthy flavor, making them ideal for stuffing, sauces, and fresh consumption.
Here's a more detailed look:
Key Characteristics:
Appearance:
The most striking feature is the heavily textured, corked skin, which resembles that of a potato or cantaloupe.
Size:
These jalapenos tend to be larger than standard supermarket jalapenos, sometimes reaching 5-6 inches in length.
Flavor:
They offer a milder heat than some other jalapeno varieties, with a sweet, earthy, and slightly zesty taste.
Heat Level:
Typically range from 3,000 to 5,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU), similar to standard jalapenos.
Uses:
Great for stuffing, making sauces and salsas, or enjoying fresh in salads and other dishes.
Sow seeds in flats or pots 8 to 10 weeks prior to the expected outdoor planting date. Sow them shallowly, around 1/4 inch deep. Hot peppers, and especially super-hot peppers, have a well-earned reputation for being finicky to germinate, but you can increase germination rates by providing bottom heat (highly suggested).
Sincerely,
Scott & Melissa
