UNIQUE CREEK HOMESTEAD SEEDS: All of our seeds are grown right here on our Unique Creek Homestead and not sourced from elsewhere. All seeds are collected each growing season and are 1-year old or less, stored in air-tight Mason jars. Seeds are harvested and labeled for storage each season, one plant/seed type at a time so seeds do not get mixed by accident during the process! The seeds we use at the start of each growing season come from the exact same seeds we sell.
ABOUT THESE SEEDS: Firecracker peppers are a type of hot pepper with a range of uses, including in cooking, as an ornamental plant, and for making wreaths and garlands: Appearance: Firecracker peppers are usually 0.75 inches long and 0.25 inches wide, and they start out green and turn yellow, orange, and finally red as they ripen.Taste: Firecracker peppers have a fruity flavor and a heat level that ranges from 30,000 to 45,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU).
Uses: Firecracker peppers can be eaten raw, used in soups and stews, pickled, or stir-fried. They can also be dried and stored for later use.
Ornamentation: Firecracker peppers can be used to make wreaths, garlands, and kitchen swags.
Growing: Firecracker peppers can be grown in containers or in the ground, but they can be tricky to germinate and may take over a month to sprout. Seeds should be sown in trays and covered with a light layer of soil.
Origin: Some firecracker peppers are a hybrid of Indian Hot Pepper, while others are native to the United States.
Sow seeds in flats or pots 8 to 10 weeks prior to the expected outdoor planting date. Sow them shallowly, around 1/4 inch deep. Hot peppers, and especially super-hot peppers, have a well-earned reputation for being finicky to germinate, but you can increase germination rates by providing bottom heat (highly suggested).
