UNIQUE CREEK HOMESTEAD SEEDS: All of our seeds are grown right here on our Unique Creek Homestead and not sourced from elsewhere. All seeds are collected each growing season and are 1-year old or less, stored in air-tight Mason jars. Seeds are harvested and labeled for storage each season, one plant/seed type at a time so seeds do not get mixed by accident during the process! The seeds we use at the start of each growing season come from the exact same seeds we sell.

ABOUT THESE SEEDS: The "Comet's Tail" pepper, also known as Hangjiao 4 (HJ4), is a chili pepper variety that gained its name from its elongated, curled pods resembling a comet's tail. It's known for being a "space chilli," as the seeds were sent into space and exposed to zero gravity, potentially leading to mutations that enhance yield and size. These peppers offer a medium heat level and a sweet, slightly smoky flavor, making them versatile for various culinary applications.
 
Key characteristics of the Comet's Tail pepper:
Appearance:The pods are long, twisted, and can curl like a comet's tail. They start green and ripen to a deep red.
Size:Pods can grow up to 30 cm long and 2-3 cm wide. The plants themselves can grow to about 50-60 cm tall in pots.
Heat Level:They are considered to have a medium heat, typically around 3,000 to 5,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU).
Flavor:The peppers offer a sweet flavor with some smoky and fruity undertones.
Uses:They are versatile and can be used in salsas, sauces, stir-fries, salads, or even as a snack. Space Origin:The seeds were sent to space, where they were exposed to zero gravity, which can lead to increased mutation rates in the seeds, potentially affecting yield and size

Sow seeds in flats or pots 8 to 10 weeks prior to the expected outdoor planting date. Sow them shallowly, around 1/4 inch deep. Hot peppers, and especially super-hot peppers, have a well-earned reputation for being finicky to germinate, but you can increase germination rates by providing bottom heat (highly suggested).
