UNIQUE CREEK HOMESTEAD SEEDS: All of our seeds are grown right here on our Unique Creek Homestead and not sourced from elsewhere. All seeds are collected each growing season and are 1-year old or less, stored in air-tight Mason jars. Seeds are harvested and labeled for storage each season, one plant/seed type at a time so seeds do not get mixed by accident during the process! The seeds we use at the start of each growing season come from the exact same seeds we sell.

ABOUT THESE SEEDS:

The Poinsettia pepper, a type of ornamental pepper, is known for its vibrant red, upward-pointing fruit that resembles a poinsettia flower. It is edible, though typically considered very hot, with a Scoville heat unit range of 5,000 to 30,000. Poinsettia peppers are relatively easy to grow and are suitable for both container gardening and in-ground planting.

Appearance: The peppers grow upright in clusters, transitioning from green to orange and then red as they mature.

Size: They are typically 3 inches long and ½ inch wide.

Taste: The peppers are very hot, though some describe the heat as hitting the tonsils rather than being a widespread burn.

Uses: They are edible and can be used in various dishes for added heat and color, or dried and used in wreaths or ristras.

Growing: They thrive in warm environments and can be treated as annuals in colder climates. Container Friendly: Poinsettia peppers do well in containers, making them a versatile choice for different growing spaces.

Sow seeds in flats or pots 8 to 10 weeks prior to the expected outdoor planting date. Sow them shallowly, around 1/4 inch deep. Hot peppers, and especially super-hot peppers, have a well-earned reputation for being finicky to germinate, but you can increase germination rates by providing bottom heat (highly suggested).
