UNIQUE CREEK HOMESTEAD SEEDS: All of our seeds are grown right here on our Unique Creek Homestead and not sourced from elsewhere. All seeds are collected each growing season and are 1-year old or less, stored in air-tight Mason jars. Seeds are harvested and labeled for storage each season, one plant/seed type at a time so seeds do not get mixed by accident during the process! The seeds we use at the start of each growing season come from the exact same seeds we sell.
ABOUT THESE SEEDS: The NuMex Heritage 6-4 is an improved variety of the original New Mexico 6-4 pepper, developed to have higher yields and more flavor compounds while maintaining the original's mild heat and classic green chile flavor. It is a productive, thick-walled pepper that grows to about 6-8 inches long, ideal for roasting, stuffing, or drying. The plant has a medium heat level of around 1,500 Scoville Heat Units (SHU) and matures in about 70-75 days from transplanting.Characteristics and history
Type: A variety of Capsicum annuum, developed from the original New Mexico 6-4 pepper. History: The NuMex Heritage 6-4 was created by Dr. Paul Bosland at New Mexico State University's Chile Pepper Institute to re-establish the characteristics of the original 1957 variety, which had been improved over time.
Flavor: It has a rich, classic New Mexico green chile flavor with mild sweetness and soft heat, and contains five times more flavor compounds than the original.
Heat Level: Mild, averaging around 1,500 SHU.
Appearance: Pods are 6 to 8 inches long, 2 inches wide, thick-walled, and turn from green to red when fully mature.
Plant: The plant has a high yield (up to 32% higher than the original) and grows to about 18–24 inches tall.
Uses: Excellent for roasting, stuffing, and using fresh in dishes like stews and burgers. Can be dried when red to produce a mild, flavorful powder or flakes. The thick flesh and uniform shape make it easy to process.
Growing information
Maturity: Approximately 70-75 days from transplanting.
Sun: Prefers full sun.
Planting: Seeds can be started indoors 8 weeks before the last frost. Transplant seedlings when they have developed 6 true leaves, spacing them about 30 inches apart. Heat: Frost-sensitive, so it is grown as an annual
Sow seeds in flats or pots 8 to 10 weeks prior to the expected outdoor planting date. Sow them shallowly, around 1/4 inch deep. Hot peppers, and especially super-hot peppers, have a well-earned reputation for being finicky to germinate, but you can increase germination rates by providing bottom heat (highly suggested).

Scott & Melissa
