UNIQUE CREEK HOMESTEAD SEEDS: All of our seeds are grown right here on our Unique Creek Homestead and not sourced from elsewhere. All seeds are collected each growing season and are 1-year old or less, stored in air-tight Mason jars. Seeds are harvested and labeled for storage each season, one plant/seed type at a time so seeds do not get mixed by accident during the process! The seeds we use at the start of each growing season come from the exact same seeds we sell.

ABOUT THESE SEEDS: The Thunder Mountain Longhorn XXL pepper is a larger, thicker version of the standard Thunder Mountain Longhorn pepper. It's known for its exceptionally long, curly, and thin shape, often reaching over a foot in length, and can be even thicker than the regular variety. While similar in flavor to a Cayenne pepper, it's considered milder and has a sweet, fruity taste. The XXL version is particularly well-suited for drying and grinding into powder, as well as for fresh use in salads and other dishes.

Key Characteristics:

Size and Shape: Long, thin, and curly, often exceeding a foot in length, with a thicker pod than the standard TML.

Flavor: Sweet and fruity with a mild heat, described as similar to a Cayenne but milder.

Heat Level: Mild, with some sources indicating 30,000-40,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU). Origin: Originally from the Guizhou province of China, known for its long peppers according to a chili seed shop.

Culinary Uses: Excellent for drying, grinding into powder, fresh use in salads, stir-fries, and for making sauces.

Additional Details: The XXL variety is a mutation found within the Thunder Mountain Longhorn lineage. Thunder Mountain Longhorn peppers are known for their high yields and adaptability to different growing conditions. The peppers can be dried and smoked, then used as a seasoning or in sauces. They are often compared to Cayenne peppers but with a more complex flavor profile

Sow seeds in flats or pots 8 to 10 weeks prior to the expected outdoor planting date. Sow them shallowly, around 1/4 inch deep. Hot peppers, and especially super-hot peppers, have a well-earned reputation for being finicky to germinate, but you can increase germination rates by providing bottom heat (highly suggested).
